The Christian’s Standard-Model
Theistic
God, and Ten Questions for Christians
For Christians, the Standard-Model Theistic God is:
1. Creator of the universe and everything in it.
2. Trinitarian. (I.e., there are three persons in one God.)
3. Almighty ruler of the universe. (God is all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal, timeless, omnipresent, and perfect.)
4. Maker of the first man (Adam) and first woman (Eve) in his own image. (Others are not that literal in interpreting Genesis but nevertheless believe God played a central role in creating the human species.)
5. The one who instills each human with a unique and everlasting soul.
6. Incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ. (Jesus has two separate and distinct natures which have not merged into a single new nature. Thus Jesus always has been, and still is, both fully human and fully divine. Jesus performed many miracles while he was physically present on earth. After his death Jesus was resurrected and appeared to hundreds of people. He then miraculously ascended into heaven.)
7. The source of our life after death. (People believe that when we die our souls return to God in Heaven for eternity if we have accepted Jesus as our savior, been baptized, kept God’s commandments and done good deeds, etc.)
8. Inspirational source of the Bible. (The Bible is God's word. To many people the Bible is infallible, inspired, and inerrant. Other people attribute less divine perfection - and more human influence - to the Bible but still believe that God played a central role in the Bible's formation.)
9. A benevolent and loving ruler. (God is good and God is love. He cares about each person, wishes us well, and knows the number of hairs on every person’s head. He wants a personal relationship with every person. Each of us can speak to God and have a personal relationship with him. The way we speak to God is through prayer. God has promised that we will be granted what we ask for in prayer.)
10. The source of a plan for each of our lives. (God has a plan for each person. Each of us has a distinct and unique purpose in God's universe.)
